Movie review
"Dostana"

"Dostana" is a dramatic comedy with Sameer (Abhishek Bachchan) and Kunal (John Abraham) playing gay to get a suitable two room accommodation in Neha's luxury apartment (Priyanka Chopra) in mainland Miami.

Director: Tarun Mansukhani
Stars: Priyanka Chopra, Bobby Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham

Tarun Mansukhani's Directorial Debut under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Dostana is a dramatic comedy with Sameer (Abhishek Bachchan) and Kunal (John Abraham) playing gay to get a suitable two room accommodation in Neha's luxury apartment (Priyanka Chopra) in mainland Miami. Kunal is a fashion photographer much in awe with Neha. While both Sameer and Kunal win Neha's love as friends, they are not able to convince her for marriage towards the end even after they reveal the truth about not being gays.

Much of a career oriented woman, Neha (working at Verve) ends up marrying counterpart Abhimanyu (Bobby Deol) who goes to almost any extent to impress his love for the lady by agreeing to all sorts of funny advice by her friends Sameer and Kunal.

Priyanka is surely at her fabulous best. Abhishek and John are hilarious and deliver good performance in their attempt to be gay. From making up romantic stories of falling in love with each other in Venice to dancing and giving flowers to one another, they display confidence in their roles making the Indian audience laugh. With the introduction of Boman Irani as Neha's boss (a gay) and a White officer (also gay) at one point makes the viewer feel that everyone except Bobby Deol in the movie is gay! Surprisingly enough, there is no controversy attached to the film as of yet.

With movies on intercultural marriages to live in couples, Indian cinema has explored all different forms of men/women relationships. Although Dostana exaggerates gay relations to a certain extent, it does reflect rather comically how Indian homes especially Mother (Kiron Kher) could even go to the extent of casting spells to get the son (Abhishek Bachchan) home and free him from his other half (John Abraham).

A pleasing performance displaying loving friendships between Sameer, Kunal and Neha, sharing good and bad times in a much comical way, the film is a love story with a twist!
